Comcast (CMCSA) and NBCUniversal may potentially be promoting "invidious" forms of diversity, equity and inclusion programs that are not in compliance with the Federal Communications Commission's regulations, Chairman Brendan Carr said in a letter Tuesday.

Carr said that he has asked the commission's enforcement bureau to start an investigation on Comcast and NBCUniversal to ensure that the companies' practices do not violate FCC regulations or civil rights laws regarding discrimination.

Comcast and NBCUniversal are the focus of this DEI investigation due to evidence of continued promotion and their presence across multiple FCC-regulated sectors, Carr added.

"We have received an inquiry from the FCC and will be cooperating with the FCC to answer their questions," a Comcast spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email.

NBCUniversal did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
