AT&T Chief Executive John Stankey has been chosen to chair the company's board of directors.
Stankey was elected unanimously by the board, the Dallas company said Friday. He succeeds William Kennard, who became chair in 2020.
AT&T is implementing a strategic and capital allocation plan, which will benefit from a change in board leadership, Kennard said.
"This will increase our governance agility and enhance our ability to seize opportunities to create long-term shareholder value while maintaining robust independent leadership of the board," Kennard said.
Stankey has served as chief executive since 2020.
