IRVING, Texas (AP) — IRVING, Texas (AP) — Celanese Corporation (CE) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $1.91 billion, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Irving, Texas-based company said it had a loss of $17.50. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, were $1.45 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.20 per share.
The chemical company posted revenue of $2.37 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.3 billion.
Celanese shares have risen 1% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $69.91, a drop of 54% in the last 12 months.
