TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), supports President Prabowo Subianto to run again in the 2029 presidential election.
AHY stated that his party wants Prabowo to continue leading and hopes that the Democratic Party remains part of the Onward Indonesia Coalition, or Koalisi Indonesia Maju (KIM).
"We certainly want to support Mr. Prabowo to continue leading and we hope that with this, the Democratic Party, as part of the Onward Indonesia Coalition, can continue to play its role well," said AHY when met at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on February 18, 2025.
According to AHY, the idea of KIM becoming a permanent coalition is a good one. He stated that KIM is a solid coalition.
"Mr. Prabowo himself leads this coalition. We can see that this is not a gimmick, but meeting after meeting, whether open or closed, formal or informal, is conducted and brings forth ideas," he said.
When asked if he would also support Gibran as a vice-presidential candidate in 2029, AHY refused to answer and just smiled.
Political communication expert, Hendri Satrio, responded to the proposal of a permanent coalition to support Prabowo Subianto's candidacy in the 2029 presidential election.
This man, known as Hensa, questioned whether the support for Prabowo in the 2029 presidential election is a package deal with Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who currently serves as the vice president.
According to Hensa, it would be impossible for other party leaders in the current KIM to not also aim for the position as Prabowo's running mate in 2029.
"As for the presidential candidate, it is definitely Mr. Prabowo. Will Gibran remain as the vice-presidential candidate or will there be a change? The leaders of other parties will certainly aim to be Prabowo's vice-presidential candidate," Hensa said as quoted from his statement on Monday, February 17, 2025.
