1506 ET - Baird analysts expect Walmart to report solid 4Q results before the market opens Thursday, likely ahead of Wall Street forecasts, they say in a research note. The Street has high expectations--with views that top the company's guidance--but the retailer has been over-delivering as of late, the analysts say. Plus, top-line indicators, such as Placer.ai data that shows stable U.S. traffic, are supportive, they add. Walmart is well positioned to issue a strong outlook as well: "The business continues to gain share across channels/categories, and improving trends in general merchandise are expected to continue (likely narrowing the gap with grocery and health/wellness)," the analysts write. Baird maintains its outperform rating and raises its price target 15% to $115. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
