Manulife Financial Reports 4Q Results, Shares Decline

Manulife Financial reported earnings that were roughly in line with results from the prior year.

The financial services provider on Wednesday said fourth-quarter net income attributable to shareholders was C$1.638 billion ($1.15 billion), compared with C$1.659 billion reported a year earlier. Core earnings of C$1.9 billion beat the C$1.773 billion reported in the prior year.

The Toronto-based company posted earnings per share of C$0.88 and core EPS of C$1.03. Analysts were expecting core EPS of C$0.95 and EPS of $C0.95, according to FactSet. In the year-ago period, the company reported EPS of C$0.86 and core EPS of C$0.92.

Book value per common share was C$25.63, up from C$22.36 a year earlier. For 2024, Manulife Financial reported core earnings of C$7.226 billion.

Manulife's shares declined 3.7% to $28.69 in post-market trading following the results. The stock is up 24% in the last year.
