2月18日，美国西南航空公司（LUV）宣布将裁减大约15%的企业岗位，涉及约1750个岗位。此次裁员主要针对企业人数和领导层角色，高级管理委员会将裁员15%。

西南航空首席执行官鲍勃·乔丹 (Bob Jordan) 在新闻稿中表示：“这一决定在我们 53 年的历史上是史无前例的，变革要求我们做出艰难的决定。”

此次大规模裁员是西南航空 53 年历史上的首次，标志着该航空公司在与激进投资者埃利奥特投资管理公司 (Elliott Investment Management) 的斗争之后的经营方式转变。

该公司表示，预计裁员将在2025年和2026年分别带来2.1亿美元和3亿美元的净节约。乔丹在给员工的说明中表示，裁员将于4月开始，到第二季度末裁员将基本完成。大多数受影响的员工在停工期间将继续领取工资和福利。 该公司预计遣散费等一次性费用将在 6000 万至 8000 万美元之间。

此外，受波音新飞机供应不足影响，西南航空陷入“无机可用”的窘境，被迫限制运营规模。裁员将有助于公司优化人力资源配置，降低运营成本，提高运营效率。
