International Graphite (ASX:IG6) said test work by Japanese chemical processing specialists, coordinated by Marubeni, returned battery-grade purification results from concentrates sourced from its Springdale graphite project in Western Australia, according to a Monday Australian bourse filing.
Various wash cycle tests returned a purity of up to 99.97% total graphitic carbon, reaching the purity specified for lithium-ion battery anode specifications.
The company is planning further purification test work programs on Springdale graphite concentrates and spheroidized Springdale graphite concentrates.
The firm collaborated with Marubeni under a nonbinding memorandum of understanding for the potential supply of spheroidized graphite from Springdale as well as the potential financial support for its mine-to-market strategy.
