Kazatomprom and Jordan Uranium Mining Co. plan to jointly study uranium exploration and mining projects in Jordan, the companies said.

The Kazakhstan state-owned miner, the world's top uranium producer, said Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with Jumco to assess potential for development of uranium exploration and mining projects in Jordan.

The partnership strengthens Kazakhstan's position in the global uranium industry, Kazatomprom Chief Executive Meirzhan Yussupov said. For Jumco, the agreement sets the stage to potentially accelerate its pace toward commercial production of uranium in Jordan, said Mohammad Al-Shannag, the company's general manager.
