Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ:BZ) Not Flying Under The Radar

Simply Wall St.
22 Feb

When close to half the companies in the United States have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") below 18x, you may consider Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ:BZ) as a stock to avoid entirely with its 33.7x P/E ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

With earnings growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Kanzhun has been doing relatively well. It seems that many are expecting the strong earnings performance to persist, which has raised the P/E. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

How Is Kanzhun's Growth Trending?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/E as steep as Kanzhun's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the market decidedly.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew earnings per share by an impressive 147% last year. Still, EPS has barely risen at all from three years ago in total, which is not ideal. Accordingly, shareholders probably wouldn't have been overly satisfied with the unstable medium-term growth rates.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the analysts covering the company suggest earnings should grow by 28% per year over the next three years. With the market only predicted to deliver 11% each year, the company is positioned for a stronger earnings result.

With this information, we can see why Kanzhun is trading at such a high P/E compared to the market. Apparently shareholders aren't keen to offload something that is potentially eyeing a more prosperous future.

What We Can Learn From Kanzhun's P/E?

It's argued the price-to-earnings ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

We've established that Kanzhun maintains its high P/E on the strength of its forecast growth being higher than the wider market, as expected. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/E as they are quite confident future earnings aren't under threat. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
