TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno aims to establish Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) in four regions of Jakarta. He mentioned this to address the increasing issue of waste in the area.
"Currently, we have built an RDF in Rorotan, which is one effort, but it is insufficient. We need a minimum of 4 areas," said Rano Karno at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
According to Rano, the waste capacity in the RDF system in the Rorotan area, Jakarta, is still inadequate as it can only accommodate up to 2,500 tons of waste per day. "You can imagine, as I mentioned earlier, Rorotan can only accommodate perhaps 2,500 tons in a day, while Jakarta's waste is 7,500 tons," he said.
Rano stated that the construction of a new RDF system is to process waste in one place to avoid waste accumulation in other disposal locations. "This means it has to be built in a different place so that the waste does not cross the city, for example, waste from the north is processed there, waste from the west is processed there," he said.
To address the waste problem, Rano also urged all Jakarta residents to manage waste independently. He emphasized that the waste issue in Jakarta does not solely depend on the Jakarta Provincial Government. According to him, residents can start separating waste on their own to reduce waste volume. "So, from the households, we have already separated, we have separated plastics, so that's how we can reduce the volume of waste," he said.
Up to now, the total waste in the entire Jakarta area has reached 8,000 tons. According to him, if this waste is not properly managed, it will pose a threat to the Jakarta area. "So, you can imagine if 8,000 tons are not properly managed, it will become a disaster. That's it," said Rano Karno.
