HSBC Repurchases Nearly 4 Million Shares

HSBC (HKG:0005) bought back for cancelation a total of 3.8 million shares in the UK and Hong Kong on Friday under its new buy-back program, according to a Monday filing with the Hong Kong exchange.

The British lender repurchased 2,811,287 shares in the UK at a weighted average price of 8.84 pounds sterling apiece and 982,000 shares in Hong Kong at a weighted average price of HK$86.81 per share.

Since the start of the current buyback program, HSBC has bought back 3,793,287 shares totaling about $42.3 million.
