--The group hopes Tesla will become a strategic investor and believes the carmaker is interested in acquiring Nissan's U.S. plants, the report said, citing unnamed sources.
--The proposal is being led by former Tesla board member Hiromichi Mizuno, as well as ex-premier Yoshihide Suga and his former aide Hiroto Izumi, according to the report.
--The plan comes after Nissan's merger talks with Honda collapsed.
--Nissan declined FT's request for comment, Tesla didn't respond to requests for comment.
