Hong Kong Shares Rise 3.3%; China Galaxy Securities, CICC Surge -- Market Talk

0818 GMT - Hong Kong shares closed higher amid positive sentiment. The benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 3.3% to 23787.93 and the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 4.5%. Among the biggest gainers, Longfor Group rose 11% and Meituan gained 9.8%. China International Capital Corp. closed 19% higher after a media report that it could merge with peer China Galaxy Securities. China Galaxy Securities jumped 17%. Meanwhile, China Mobile led losses, down 1.4%, while Cnooc dropped 1.2%. Today's Hong Kong budget speech didn't provide any significant upside surprises and had a limited impact on the stock market, analysts said.
