Amazon Seen Unlikely to Launch National LTL Carrier, JPMorgan Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1322 ET - There appears to be little threat posed by Amazon to existing less-than-truckload carriers as the company reportedly explores building out its internal LTL capacity, JPMorgan analysts say. Citing a conversation with a former Amazon executive, analysts say they don't anticipate Amazon becoming a national LTL carrier in the next three years and that Amazon is "unlikely to make a big impact in this small niche of freight." Shares of LTL carriers including Old Dominion Freight Line, Saia and XPO fell Friday amid talk of Amazon possibly entering the sector. (liz.young@wsj.com)
