TFI Reversal a Sign of the Times in Politically Charged Canada -- Market Talk

1046 ET - TFI International's sudden reversal on moving its headquarters from Montreal to the U.S. serves as a cautionary tale for Canadian companies amid heightened geopolitical anxiety fueled by President Trump's tariff threats. The logistics firm says the U-turn was due to shareholder feedback, led by Quebec's powerful Caisse de Depot et Placement pension fund. Caisse said it was not on board with the relocation. Trump's tariff threats and repeated calls to make Canada the 51st state have roiled the business and political class in Canada, with calls for leaders to rebuild the economy as the country can no longer count as the U.S. as an ally. TFI likely faced stiff blowback in this period of renewed patriotism. (paul.vieira@wsj.com; @PaulVieira)
