Japan's retail sales grew 3.9% year on year to 13.623 trillion yen in January, slightly higher than the 3.5% the month prior, preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry on Friday showed.
The seasonally adjusted sales figure gained 0.5% from the month prior.
Further, commercial sales gained 6.3% on year to 48.671 trillion yen, while wholesale trade gained 7.2% to 35.048 trillion yen, the data showed.
