Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TPE:2330) or TSMC is negotiating with Intel to acquire a stake in the US semiconductor maker, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing reports from US media.
China criticized the move, saying the Taiwanese chipmaker is seeking political support from the US government, the report said.
Taiwan's government said it has not obtained any information regarding any potential overseas investment plan from TSMC, according to the report.
Neither the company nor Intel confirmed the reports, the media outlet said.
TSMC's fell less than 2% in recent trade.
