- Onvo today shared a new image about the L90, continuing to benchmark the model against Li Auto.
- The move signals Onvo's more aggressive approach to the stiff competition to come.
Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio (NYSE: NIO), has posted a new image of the L90, seemingly insisting that it will benchmark its flagship model against that of Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).
In the image, which Onvo shared on Weibo today, a camouflage-wrapped L90 and a Li L9 are parked on the same road, showing how their sides compare.
The image shows that the Onvo L90 and Li L9 are close in length and height, and both have a typical SUV (sport utility vehicle) design on the outside.
The comparison comes after Li Auto shared new images of the Li i8 earlier today, comparing the side of the all-electric SUV to that of Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model X.
This is the second day in a row that Onvo has taken on Li Auto's models in an aggressive manner, something that has never been done before for the premium-positioned Nio main brand.
Yesterday, after Li Auto shared the first images of the Li i8, Onvo also shared the first official image of the L90.
While the images of the Li i8 shared by Li Auto yesterday only showed the front and rear of the electric SUV, Onvo showed the side of the L90.
The L90 -- Onvo's flagship product -- would feature a three-row seating layout and is a large SUV aimed at large families, Onvo president Alan Ai said earlier this month.
Onvo plans to debut the L90 in the second quarter of this year and officially launch it in the third quarter, he said.
The Li L9, on the other hand, is the flagship model of Li Auto's L-series of extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which also includes the Li L6, Li L7 and Li L8, all of which are SUVs.
Li Auto's on-sale models also include the Li Mega MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model.
"The space flagships for big families, pure electric and extended range, you can choose what you like," Onvo wrote in Chinese on Weibo today.
This isn't the first time Nio has benchmarked Onvo's products against Li Auto.
In an earnings call last November 20, Nio management said Onvo would launch two SUVs in 2025, including a six- or seven-seater and a big five-seater, to complete its presence in the SUV market.
The two models -- benchmarked against Li Auto's Li L8 and Li L7 -- are very competitive and cost-controlled, the company's management previously said.
Onvo's first model, the L60 SUV, went on sale last September 19 to compete with Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y at a lower price.
