The Google Maps page shows the station's status as “Temporarily closed,” meaning it is not yet operational.
CnEVPost has learned that the battery swap station will be officially put into operation on Thursday, February 27.
In October 2024, Nio and its Middle East backer, Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings, formed Nio MENA to expand into the MENA market.
The UAE had been chosen as the initial market for Nio MENA, positioning the region as a key player in the deployment of advanced autonomous driving systems and battery swap technology, according to a statement at the time.
Nio House Abu Dhabi opened on November 28 last year and is the first flagship showroom opened by Nio in the MENA region.
On the opening day of that Nio House, Nio also announced that the EL8 -- known as the ES8 in China -- had been delivered in the UAE market, and that local deliveries of the EC6 and ET5 would begin in the first quarter of 2025.
Nio's first battery swap station in the MENA region was expected be operational by the end of 2024, the company said at the time.
The latest development means that construction of the battery swap station has been delayed by about a quarter from Nio's original plan.
Nio currently has 3,129 battery swap stations in China and 59 in Europe, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
