Deere (DE) shareholders Wednesday rejected a proposal seeking report on diversity and hiring statistics, demographic information about new employees showing whether race or gender had a role in their hiring.
The resolution, supported by the National Legal and Policy Center, attracted support from 1.3% of the shares voted at Wednesday's annual meeting, according to a preliminary tally reported by the company, according to a FactSet transcript.
The organization said its proposal followed the US Supreme Court last year voting to end affirmative action programs at US colleges. Attorneys General of thirteen states had warned of implications of the Supreme Court decision on corporate entities.
Deere had opposed the resolution and recommended to vote against it.
