3月4日，芯片代工巨头台积电计划对美国工厂追加投资1000亿美元，以提升其在美国本土的芯片产能，并支持总统特朗普壮大国内制造业的目标。
台积电首席执行官魏哲家周一在白宫与特朗普一同公布了公司扩大美国业务版图的愿景，这一布局始于特朗普第一任期的2020年。特朗普表示，此举意味着“世界上最强大的人工智能芯片将在美国本土制造”。
特朗普表示：“没有半导体，就没有经济发展，它们为从人工智能到汽车再到先进制造业的一切提供动力。”特朗普此前承诺要让美国在人工智能领域占据主导地位。
魏哲家表示，将在已规划的650亿美元投资的基础上追加这笔投资，将创造数千个就业岗位。
台积电是全球人工智能芯片生产的领导者，也是英伟达和苹果公司的主要芯片制造合作伙伴。
