Nio (NYSE: NIO) averaged nearly 100,000 daily battery swaps in February, as the Chinese New Year holiday saw a spike in driving trips.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker provided 2,738,400 battery swaps from February 1-28, a daily average of 97,800, according to a Nio Power monthly operations report it released today.
This makes February the highest month in Nio's history for average daily battery swap services, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.
This is largely due to the Chinese New Year holiday -- which this year ran from January 28 to February 4, is usually a peak travel period.
A report published by Nio on February 7 showed that in the 15 days between January 22 and February 5, there were 12 days with more than 100,000 battery swap services in a single day.
At the peak of travel towards the end of the holiday on February 3, the company saw a record 136,720 single-day battery swap services.
Nio added 35 battery swap stations in China in February, bringing the number of the facility to 3,141 as of the end of February.
As of today, Nio has 3,145 battery swap stations in China, of which 970 are located along highways.
On average, each Nio user used the battery swap service about six times in February.
Compared to charging, the battery swap service saves each user an average of 5 hours and 42 minutes per month, Nio said.
A total of 27,925 Nio users enjoyed their first battery swap service in February, according to the report.
Nio added 101 charging piles in February, and 22 county-level administrative regions got their first Nio charging posts.
The company provided 1,866,312 charging services in February, with more than 80 percent of orders serving non-Nio-branded models.
Nio's charging network has provided charging services to customers of more than 200 brands.
To date, Nio has 2,680 supercharging stations in China with 12,392 charging piles, and 1,690 destination charging stations with 13,143 chargers, according to its charging map.
Nio offered 9,873 battery upgrades in February, bringing the cumulative number of services to 377,489.
The company allows users of its standard 75-kWh range models to temporarily upgrade to higher-capacity 100-kWh and 150-kWh battery packs on demand.
Starting this month, Nio's sub-brand Onvo also began allowing owners the flexibility to upgrade their standard-range 60-kWh to the 85-kWh long-rang ones on a daily, monthly or annual basis.
Analysts expect Nio's battery swap business to break even by end of 2026
