Kroger Sudden CEO Exit Brings New Wrinkle -- Market Talk

1327 GMT - Kroger's sudden departure of longtime executive Rodney McMullen brings a new wrinkle to the company. The supermarket operator on Monday said McMullen, who served as CEO and chairman, resigned following a board investigation of his personal conduct, ending a career that spanned more than four decades at the company. With 4Q results scheduled for Thursday, investors will now likely laser in on what Kroger's strategy will be under interim CEO Ronald Sargent. Kroger is working to keep its customers' spending steady at a time of higher prices for eggs and other groceries, while also still contending with the fallout of its failed acquisition for rival Albertsons.
