Nio (NYSE: NIO) has completed the latest round of winter testing for its executive flagship sedan, the ET9, with first deliveries of the model set to begin later this month.
The ET9 has officially completed its third round of winter testing and acceptance, entering the final stages of preparation before delivery, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.
The model will be open for test drives and deliveries will begin in late March, Nio said, repeating a previously mentioned timeline.
Nio unveiled the ET9 and started accepting pre-orders at Nio Day 2023 in December 2023 in an attempt to enter the luxury executive sedan market dominated by foreign brands including Mercedes Maybach.
At Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, the ET9 was officially launched with a starting price of RMB 788,000 ($108,230) including the battery pack, making it Nio's highest-priced model.
Nio today shared a video of the latest round of winter testing of the ET9 on its mobile app, and shared a timeline of the model's journey from birth.
In 2019, Nio launched the ET9 project.
In October 2022, Nio realized mule deliveries and began real-world testing of the ET9, the industry's first model with steer-by-wire (SBW) technology and fully active suspension capabilities.
From January-March 2023, the ET9 underwent its first round of winter testing and completed its first winter low-traction road performance test.
In May 2023, ET9 completed the first durability test of SBW system in China.
In June-September 2023, ET9 completed high-traction road test, summer performance test, and first round of chassis structure durability test.
In December 23, 2023, ET9 was officially unveiled at Nio Day 2023.
In January 2024, ET9 completed its first crash test.
In Early 2024 through September 2024, ET9 completed the second round of winter testing, plateau validation testing, high-traction road testing, and summer testing.
In July 2024, Nio's first in-house developed high-performance smart driving chip, Shenji NX9031, successfully taped out.
On November 8, 2024, ET9 became the first model to be certified by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's SBW regulations.
On December 21, 2024, ET9 was officially launched on Nio Day 2024.
In January-February 2025, ET9 started the third round of winter testing and completed the acceptance.
In March 2025, ET9 was officially mass-produced and delivery versions began to be sent to stores nationwide.
