SoftBank Group (TYO:9984) plans to borrow $16 billion to fund artificial intelligence investments, The Information reported Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The Japanese tech conglomerate will allocate part of the loan to invest in OpenAI and acquire chip design firm Ampere, the report said.

SoftBank is also considering borrowing another $8 billion in early 2026, The Information reported, citing the sources.

Executives also discussed acquisitions in AI and data centers in the US and Europe and potential energy deals, particularly nuclear power, according to The Information.
