March 3 - Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) released Dragon Copilot as its latest AI voice-activated assistant targeted at healthcare practitioners. The organization launched the tool through a press release on Monday, which combines functionality from both Dragon Medical One and DAX Copilot to enhance documentation.
The system the company operates through is the automatic drafting of clinical notes together with referral letters and post-visit summaries to let medical workers focus on patient care instead of paperwork. The assistant brings several expected benefits, such as decreasing healthcare provider administrative burdens and leading to improved care quality results.
The solution is available on mobile, browser, and desktop platforms and integrates with multiple electronic health record systems. This initiative follows Microsoft's $16 billion acquisition of Nuance Communications in 2021, enhancing its footprint in the competitive AI scribing market.
Dr. David Rhew, Microsoft's global chief medical officer, said the assistant will help improve clinical outcomes by reducing administrative burdens. Early trials at WellSpan Health have produced positive feedback, with physicians reporting improved efficiency and accuracy.
Dragon Copilot will roll out in the U.S. and Canada starting in May, with further availability planned in the U.K., Netherlands, France, and Germany in subsequent months.
