- Dongfeng Honda has officially launched the Honda S7, the first model under Honda's Ye brand.
- The Honda S7 is offered in two variants with starting prices of RMB 259,900 ($35,840) and RMB 309,900 respectively.

While Toyota's bZ3X SUV (sport utility vehicle) is seen as competitive, another Japanese carmaker Honda was not so lucky with its S7 SUV launched on the same day.
Dongfeng Honda, Honda's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor (HKG: 0489), officially launched the Honda S7 yesterday, offering two variants with starting prices of RMB 259,900 ($35,840) and RMB 309,900 respectively.
The vehicle is an all-electric SUV with a length, width and height of 4,750 mm, 1,930 mm and 1,625 mm respectively and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
For comparison, the Toyota bZ3X, which was also launched yesterday, starts at RMB 109,800. The Toyota SUV is smaller in size, measuring 4,600 mm in length, 1,850 mm or 1,875 mm in width, 1,600 mm or 1,645 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm.
The S7 is the first model of Honda's new Ye brand -- launched in China on April 6, 2024 -- although the automaker is downplaying the new brand as the name has received a lot of negative feedback.
The less expensive variant of the car is a rear-wheel drive single motor model with a motor that produces 200 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque.
Its pricier variant is a dual-motor four-wheel drive model with an additional front electric motor that has a maximum power of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 350 Nm.
It comes standard with a Li-ion ternary battery pack from CATL with a capacity of 89.8 kWh and a CLTC range of 650 km and 620 km respectively.
The Honda S7 is equipped with the Honda Sensing 360+ smart driving solution with highway pilot assist, which allows for automatic following, automatic overtaking, and automatic deceleration at curves and ramps.
Previously, several media reports had said that the model may offer Honda Sensing 360+ as well as Huawei smart driving solution for customers to choose from, but this did not become a reality.
The Honda S7 didn't receive a lot of praise after its launch, as it may have a hard time convincing potential customers why they should choose it over its many competitors.
The model is priced similarly to the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, which has two variants starting at RMB 263,500 and RMB 303,500 respectively.
Honda has not announced the initial order performance of the S7 after its launch.
The Toyota bZ3X, which was also launched yesterday, received more than 10,000 orders in its first hour, as its starting price of as low as RMB 109,800 and tech features are seen as competitive.
Tesla has received 200,000 orders in China for refreshed Model Y, report says
($1 = RMB 7.2525)
