Trump Wants to Build a 'Golden Dome' Defense System

President Trump announced his desire for a missile-defense system protecting the U.S., labeling it a "Golden Dome."
Trump has taken inspiration from two places: former President Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative, and Israel's "Iron Dome." Reagan's vision was to protect the whole of the U.S., while Israel's system protects against rockets. Trump seems to want a series of missile-defense systems to cover the whole of the U.S. from intercontinental ballistic missiles, not shorter-range weapons.
