Southwest Airlines is shutting down two crew bases in Austin, Texas, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The airline plans to move about 280 flight attendants from the two bases to 12 other bases, a Southwest spokesperson said Tuesday. There were no pilots at the two bases.
The bases are scheduled to be wound down by July 1.
Southwest said the two bases it is planning to close are satellites, and it will now focus on its 12 traditional bases as it works to maximize operational efficiency.
In February, Southwest said it would cut about 15% of its corporate workforce, or 1,750 jobs
