The Chinese government is looking to issue guidelines to boost the use of open-source RISC-V chips across the country for the first time, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing sources briefed on the matter.
The guidelines could be released as soon as this month, but the timing could change, the report said.
RISC-V is an open-source technology for the design of less complicated chips used in smartphones and even in central processing units for artificial intelligence servers, Reuters said.
Among the users of RISC-V technology include Alibaba (HKG:9988), XuanTie, and startup Nuclei System Technology, the report said.
