Archer Daniels Midland is recalling some pelleted animal-feed products over the possibility they contain levels of copper or zinc that could be harmful to cattle.

The food-production and ethanol company on Wednesday said there are 33 lot numbers involved in the recall of the pelleted products, which were distributed between Jan. 16 and Feb. 27 and potentially purchased in Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Iowa, Georgia and Ohio.

Archer Daniels Midland said it isn't aware of any illnesses or deficiency effects yet, but that animals could suffer from chronic copper toxicity and zinc deficiency if they ingested the recalled products.

Some of the possible effects of chronic copper toxicity include gastroenteritis and dehydration, Archer Daniels Midland said, adding that animals could see decreases in feed intake, feed efficiency and growth as a result of zinc deficiency.

The company's recall comes about a month after it outlined a $500 million to $750 million cost-cutting plan to deal with softer market conditions, a restructuring that followed lower-than-expected revenue for the fourth quarter.

"With softer market conditions and policy uncertainty around the world going into 2025, we are focused on improving our operational performance, accelerating costs savings, and simplifying our portfolio," Chief Executive Juan Luciano said in February.
