此次访问是在2024年1月阿拉斯加航空一架737 Max飞机飞行途中发生面板脱落事故之后进行的。访问期间，达菲和罗切洛计划与波音公司首席执行官凯利·奥特伯格会面，奥特伯格定于4月2日在参议院商务委员会作证，介绍公司为提高安全和质量标准所做出的持续努力。他们还将参观737生产设施，并与联邦航空管理局检查员交谈。
达菲宣布这一决定之际，正值埃塞俄比亚航空302航班空难六周年，该空难造成157人丧生，其中包括8名美国公民。达菲在社交媒体平台X上表示，他与几位302航班乘客的家属见面，并承诺为他们提供答案和支持。
