1307 ET - Building products manufacturers including Masco, Whirlpool, LG Corp and Shaw Industries have raised prices in recent weeks in response to increased tariffs from President Trump, BofA Securities analysts say in a research note. In letters to customers, companies have highlighted rising expenses due changes in global trade policies. In addition, key inputs including steel, copper and natural gas have all increased, the analysts say. "We believe the price announcements are a somewhat preemptive action that could give companies flexibility in a dynamic trade policy environment," the analysts say, adding that price realization and elasticity of demand will be a key focus of investors given the weak volume trends across most repair and remodel categories and slowing housing starts.
