TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto requested that ride-hailing app-based transportation companies provide Eid al-Fitr holiday allowances (THR) to their online motorcycle taxi drivers and courier partners.

"All app-based transportation companies are required to provide holiday bonuses to online drivers and couriers in the form of cash, considering their work activity," said Prabowo at the Presidential State Palace, Central Jakarta, on March 10, 2025.

Prabowo mentioned that there are currently around 250 thousand active driver and courier workers, with 1-1.5 million having a part-time status.

"The amount and mechanism for giving this holiday bonus will be conveyed by the Minister of Manpower through a circular letter," said Prabowo.

Prabowo requested that the Eid al-Fitr allowance be given at the latest 7 days before Eid al-Fitr. This decision was made after a meeting with PT Goto CEO Patrick Walujo, Grab CEO Anthony Tan, and Minister of Manpower Yassierli.

Prior to this, Yassierli wanted the disbursement of the Eid al-Fitr allowance for ride-hailing app drivers to be given in cash by the application providers.

"We request that it be given in cash," said Yassierli in a press conference at the Ministry of Manpower office, Gatot Subroto area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Indonesian Transportation Workers Union (SPAI) also urged the platforms to fulfill their obligations to the drivers.

SPAI Chairperson Lily Pujiati considered the excuse of platforms being unable to pay Eid al-Fitr allowances to online motorcycle taxi (ojol), online taxi, and couriers due to financial limitations as a baseless reason.

However, platforms such as Gojek, Grab, Maxim, Shopee Food, Lalamove, Deliveree, Borzo, InDrive, and others were deemed to have grown because of the work of the drivers.

SPAI also rejected Eid al-Fitr Aid and Charity Aid as substitutes for Eid allowances for online motorcycle taxi drivers, taxi drivers, and couriers. According to Lily, these aids are merely an excuse for platforms to evade their financial obligations.

She emphasized that despite significant profits, these companies fail to allocate funds for minimum wages, Eid allowances, overtime pay, menstrual leave, and maternity leave for drivers.

“The claim of financial inability is merely an excuse, considering the platforms' accumulated profits to date,” Lily stated in a written statement on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
