1359 ET - The Whitecap Resources and Veren merger is a match made in heaven and a long time in the making. In a Raymond James report, analyst Luke Davis says the combined company is positioned "exceptionally well" thanks to Whitecap's management team and "is poised to improve operational performance and capture synergies across the value chain." The analyst also thinks that the merger positions the company among larger-cap peers, which is the clearest path to valuation upgrades. Overall, Davis says this is a good match, one that "has seemed like a logical transaction for more than a decade has finally come to fruition." (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
