TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Founder of Hedge Fund Bridgewater Associates Raymond Thomas Dalio or Ray Dalio revealed many obstacles Indonesia must overcome to become a developed country. Challenges include bureaucratic governance, the ability to generate capital, the ease of doing business, entrepreneurship, and anti-corruption strategies.
"In some countries, I have seen this transition happen. I know the importance of a leader who is capable of taking control and making very difficult reforms to overcome corruption challenges, and revitalize these countries," said Ray Dalio when speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Friday, March 7, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
During the occasion, Ray Dalio assessed President Prabowo Subianto as the right figure to lead Indonesia towards becoming a developed country. He believes that Indonesia has the potential to rise out of developing country status.
"I have spoken directly with Bapak Prabowo and in my opinion, Bapak Prabowo is the right person and he has brought me here to meet with you directly," said Ray Dalio in front of the ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, the National Economic Council (DEN), and several Indonesian entrepreneurs.
He added, "I follow the world's developments. I witness what happens. I'm not an academic, I'm not a macro investor. I realize that, but from this situation, I see the potential and I am happy to be able to contribute, to do this."
Ray Dalio is reportedly going to be part of the management structure of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara). This was announced by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, after a meeting on the same occasion.
"Insyaallah," said Rosan in response to questions from the press about Ray Dalio's certainty as an Advisor to Danantara.
Rosan Roeslani explained the presence of the seasoned investor Ray Dalio to share experiences in investment with the tycoons.
Ray Dalio is reported to be joining Danantara's Advisory Board along with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. "If today, (Ray Dalio) comes here, and then he shares with us, and then with this, of course he is what, if I say, then alhamdulillah, we have already shaken hands, that's it."
When asked about Ray Dalio's certainty of joining Danantara, Rosan Roeslani responded with both thumbs up, seemingly affirming the media's question.
Earlier, the President's Envoy for Climate and Energy and the younger brother of President Prabowo, Hashim Sujono Djojohadikusumo expressed his hope that global figures, including Ray Dalio, could join Danantara's management structure. Ray Dalio's presence is expected to attract many investors to collaborate with Danantara on various environmentally friendly and feasible projects.
