China and the US are looking to host a "birthday summit" between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in June in the US, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Talks regarding the summit come as the US is ramping up tariffs and other measures against China, and with China hitting back with retaliatory tariffs against the US, the report said.

A potential summit on their birth month would signal goodwill between both countries amid a trade war, the report said.

Trump was born on June 14, 1946, while Xi was born on June 15, 1953, the report said.
