TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has logged approximately 114 reports of human rights violations related to the National Strategic Projects (PSN) from 2020 to 2023.
"We have recorded at least 114 reports from 2020 to 2023," said Komnas HAM chair Atnike Nova Sigiro on Friday, March 14, 2025, adding that some of these cases have led to mediation between the government and related companies.
But not all cases can be resolved through mediation, as it requires the consent of both parties. Komnas HAM recommends law enforcement for cases involving violence by the police and government institutions.
"For example, in the Rempang case, we recommended law enforcement," Atnike said.
The human rights agency also tackles land disputes and natural resources-related issues. “Not only do we adopt recommendations to security forces of the police, we also give recommendations to local governments and corporations," she said.
Furthermore, Komnas HAM also focuses on the prevention of the criminalization of civil communities. However, comprehensive strategic recommendations require extensive studies.
She added that both regulations and studies on the implementation of PSN require thorough examination. "We find it quite challenging to summarize due to the diverse nature of the PSN projects and the inability to apply a uniform approach," she said.
Nevertheless, Komnas HAM is not authorized to enforce the recommendations it has issued. "We do not have the authority to enforce them," she said.
