U.K. Could Post Negative Growth in 1Q -- Market Talk

0941 GMT - U.K.'s economic growth is dwindling and risks posting a contraction in the first quarter, XTB research director Kathleen Brooks says in a note. U.K. GDP contracted by 0.1% in January on a month on month basis, weaker than the consensus forecast by economist in a WSJ poll of 0.1% growth. "If economic data does not pick up in February and March, then we could be on track for a negative quarter of growth in Q1," Brooks says. The uncertainty around tariffs and geopolitics could weigh on growth in coming months, she says. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
