BMW partnered with Huawei to equip its upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicles in China with the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, according to a Monday blog post from the company.
BMW global models have BMW's Android-based iDrive X system. The switch to HarmonyOS reflects the increasing focus on locally developed digital ecosystems, the release said.
BMW is also expanding its research in AI and smart connectivity through four R&D centers in China.
A digital key for Huawei users will launch in 2025, with a more advanced interconnection system arriving in 2026.
