Expectations Could Hurt Chewy's 4Q; 2025 Outlook Remains Strong -- Market Talk

1447 ET - Strong 4Q trends may result in overly optimistic expectations surrounding Chewy's recent quarter, Morgan Stanley analysts say in a research note, with the online pet-supplies retailer set to report next week. All eyes will be on the company's 2025 outlook, they add, noting that Chewy historically issues a conservative initial outlook. If that's the case, "we may look to treat an expectations-led selloff on earnings as a buying opportunity," the analysts write. Their optimism is in part due to pets being a resilient market--one which they say could grow this year if macroeconomic trends stabilize. The analysts also expect Chewy to beat-and-raise its initial 2025 outlook throughout the year. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
