该团伙搭建了一个“看似正规的平台”，向客户提供比特币投资计划。随后，他们在各大网站和社交媒体上大肆推广这些产品。诈骗分子还诱骗部分“受害者”交出电子设备控制权，以便“自行进行加密货币转账，并窃取他们的个人和银行信息”。
在调查过程中，警方揭露了一个复杂的投资网络，即利用新投资者的资金来支付老投资者的回报。一些“受害者”与运营者签订了“合同”，运营者承诺“一个月后支付40%的股息，一年后高达300%”。最终，警方追踪到一条“诈骗链条”，发现“涉及多达36个国家的数千名受害者”。
