Coles has singled out Victoria as the state with a significantly higher level of theft and suggested a rise in organised crime is behind the increase – a trend supported by other supermarkets and even fashion retailers.
The country’s second-largest supermarket chain said incidents of crime were 54 per cent higher in Victoria than in NSW last year as it accelerated the roll-out of new technology to make theft harder.
