Meta's Llama AI Hits 1B Downloads-But Shares Still Slide

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) stock dropped 3.58% to $583.24 on Tuesday as of 3:30 PM ET, even as the company celebrated a major AI milestone1 billion downloads of its Llama AI models.

In a blog post, Meta highlighted Llama's impact across industries, from startups and universities to major tech firms and researchers. The company credited its open-source approach, calling Llama transparent, customizable, and secure, making it a popular choice for innovation.

Meta's latest model, Llama 3.3, launched in December, and Llama 4 is already in the works. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the new version is being trained on over 100,000 Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) H100 GPUs, making it one of the largest AI projects to date.

Despite the AI momentum, investors weren't convinced, sending Meta's stock lower in Tuesday's session.
