Prada's Potential Acquisition of Versace Raises Mixed Views -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
17 Mar

0946 GMT - Prada's potential acquisition of Versace from U.S. group Capri Holdings has both positive and negative factors, Stifel analysts Rogerio Fujimori and Daniele Alibrandi write in a note. The Italian luxury group's potential interest in Versace has been the topic of market speculation for some time. Prada is among the winners in the luxury space and has the internal resources and expertise to revamp luxury brands, they add. Furthermore, Versace and Prada have different brand aesthetics that appear quite complementary, the analysts add. However, Versace has significantly lagged its European peers in recent years and a potential deal could hurt Prada's margins, Stifel says. Shares in Hong Kong trade 1.3% lower.
