South Korean Shares Close Higher Ahead of Trump-Putin Call, FOMC -- Market Talk

0701 GMT - South Korea's Kospi trimmed earlier gains to close 0.1% higher at 2612.34, as investors awaited for geopolitical developments as well as central bank meetings later in the week. Key events include an upcoming phone call between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin over a possible Russia-Ukraine ceasefire as well as central bank meetings among G-10 economies, according to Michael Brown, senior research strategist at Pepperstone. Among the best performers on the benchmark index, Hanwha Ocean climbed 6.7%, Hanwha Systems added 6.3% and Samsung E&A Co. rose 6.1%. Meanwhile, Korea Aerospace Industries fell 11% and HYBE Co. lost 4.2%. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
