U.K. Government to Cut Down Competition Watchdog's Merger Reviews, FT Says, Citing Sources

--U.K. Treasury Chief Rachel Reeves will outline plans to restrict how the Competition and Markets Authority carries out merger reviews, the FT reports citing government officials with knowledge of the plans.

--Reeves is expected to float changes to the two main tests the CMA uses to gauge whether it needs to open a probe into a company transaction, according to the FT.

--The move aims to "tighten" and "limit" the scenarios in which deals will face investigation, the FT reports.
