Nvidia (NVDA) introduced its new Spectrum-X and Quantum-X silicon photonics product lines on Tuesday, saying that these will drive growth "on a massive scale" for next-generation factories using artificial intelligence.

The new switches also were developed to combine electronic circuits and optical communications at scale while reducing energy consumption and operational costs, the company said.

Nvidia has partnered with several other companies, including Coherent (COHR), Corning (GLW), Lumentum Holdings (LITE), and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM), along with Japanese logistics company Senko Group and Taiwanese iPhone assembler Foxconn, to expand production and enhance supply chain capabilities,

The new Quantum-X photonics InfiniBand switches are expected to be available later this year while the Spectrum-X photonics ethernet switches are scheduled to debut in 2026, Nvidia said.
