US equity indexes were mixed in midday trading on Friday, with the S&P 500 reportedly heading for a fifth consecutive week of declines, as investors navigate mounting economic uncertainty.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were down 0.8% and 0.9%, respectively.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down less than 0.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was fractionally up and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 0.1%.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) slipped 0.6%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) lost 0.8%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was down 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 0.6%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) gained 0.6%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 0.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.3%. Natural gas climbed 0.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.9% lower.
Gold was down 0.8% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.9%. Silver was down 1.4%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.6%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was fractionally lower; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also edged down.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.1%; retail fund VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was down 0.5%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 0.3%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.2% lower, and iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) each fell 0.2%. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.6%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 0.6%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also declined.
